BRUNO BISANG - PHOTOGRAPHER INFO

Bruno Bisang (1952, Ascona/Switzerland) is one of the world's leading classic photographers. He spent much of his youth in Ascona, a picturesque little town in the Italian speaking part of Switzerland. Growing up on the shores of Lake Maggiore in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland, Bruno Bisang fell in love with film. “I was only 10 years old – too young to see the movies,” says Bisang, “but I could stare at the posters outside to my heart’s content. I felt so attracted to them: the style, the women. I knew I had to do something that would take me in this direction.” When he was 19 he attended the School of Applied Arts for Photography in Zurich, which was followed by a photographic apprenticeship. As soon as he was able, he learnt the technical side of taking pictures in a local studio, and “slowly, slowly, I found my way”. Since 1979 Bruno Bisang has worked as a freelance photographer, first in Zurich, and then for a time in Milan and Munich. Today his work is a familiar sight on the pages of Vogue, Cosmopolitan and GQ and he counts Chanel, Givenchy and Guerlain as his clients. Bisang works between Milan, New York, Paris and Zurich.

Bisang has been on a lifelong artistic quest to document the unending, multifaceted varieties of the feminine mystique. His photographs are more than mere idealizations of the female form. They are expressions of Bisang‘s desire to record the independent spirit of his subjects – international models and celebrities such as Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, Eva Herzigova, Linda Evangelista, and Iman Bowie. This collection of exquisitely observed studies is a luminous distillation of essence and form, „a record of women‘s radiance that expresses the belief that every woman possesses a fount of femininity and unique sensuality“.
